Meet Dr. Ruben Castro, MD, a skilled plastic surgeon practicing alongside Dr. Brandon Richland in Newport Beach, Southern California. Dr. Castro earned his Medical Doctorate (M.D.) from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Before medical school, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neuroscience, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
He then completed a six-year Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of California, Irvine, followed by the Bruce Connell Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship in cosmetic surgery, also at UC Irvine. Those seven years of surgical training gave him sustained, hands-on experience across both reconstructive and aesthetic technique, and they remain the foundation for the surgical judgment he brings to every procedure he performs today.
Dr. Castro came to medicine after nine years of service in the United States Navy, where he served as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman and deployed to Iraq. He was promoted five times over the course of his enlistment and received an honorable discharge to pursue his medical career. He is a published researcher and a native Spanish speaker, and he cares for Spanish-speaking patients in their first language from consultation through recovery.
