Are Injectables Right for You?

Exploring Your Candidacy

Candidates for injectables should be healthy, non-smoking adults with no underlying health conditions or medications that could promote bleeding or impair healing. Patients with allergies or sensitivities to product ingredients should explore other options for their concerns. Lastly, as with any treatment, candidates should understand how their treatment works, what to expect and have realistic expectations.

Types of Injectable Treatments

Injectable neuromodulators Botox and Jeuveau (Newtox) offer an effective treatment for dynamic wrinkles or those caused by repeated facial movements, such as frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, and smile lines. Small amounts of these products are injected into targeted muscles to partially and temporarily weaken them. As a result, lines and wrinkles are smoothed or even prevented from developing.

Additional Reading

Botox was the first neuromodulator to hit the market as a solution for wrinkles and is the most well-known injectable neuromodulator treatment. While it has been established as a household name in cosmetics, other brands of neuromodulators have hit the market. While these various brands are comparable to Botox in effectiveness, application, and longevity, some patients find that one brand works best for them or like to alternate between brands.

Jeuveau is one such alternative brand and has been dubbed “newtox” due to its ability to match Botox’s benefits. During your consultation, Dr. Richland can help you decide which neuromodulator may best suit your needs.

Dermal Fillers

Alternatively, dermal fillers offer rejuvenation in areas affected by static wrinkles (those caused by general aging and gravity) and volume loss. When injected, these products deliver immediate volume beneath the skin to achieve a fuller, smoother appearance. In addition, dermal fillers can also be used to sculpt or enhance specific facial features, such as the lips or cheeks.

Additional Reading

Voluma and other fillers are trusted names in dermal fillers and offer a variety of hyaluronic acid (HA) based formulations to closely mimic natural tissues in both delicate and more substantial areas of the face. In addition to immediate volume enhancement, the HA base in these fillers stimulates ongoing improvement to the skin’s hydration, elasticity, and texture for significant rejuvenation. Fillers offer an effective treatment option for:

  • Lip enhancement
  • Cheek enhancement
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty
  • Tear trough rejuvenation
  • Nasolabial fold reduction
  • Enhanced jawline definition
  • Restoring volume to the temples

While these products work similarly, Juvederm or Voluma are generally the ideal choices for cheeks, deeper lines and folds, whereas Belotero may be better suited for fine lines or under-eye bags. With either product or a combination of both, you can expect your results to look natural and cohesive with the surrounding tissues.

There is little to no recovery following your injectable treatment. You may experience some mild redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising around the injection sites, but this should resolve quickly.

With neuromodulator injections, you will begin to notice a difference in the treated areas within a few days up to a little over a week. Typically, you can expect your results to last three to four months. Dermal fillers offer immediate volume enhancement. However, it will take about two weeks for the filler to fully settle. Dermal filler results can last anywhere from six months up to two years, depending on the specific formula used and how quickly your body metabolizes the solution.

Injectables FAQs

The duration of your treatment will depend on the number of injections needed to deliver your ideal results. Typically, you can expect your injectable treatment to last between 15 and 30 minutes, though, in some cases, it can take as long as an hour.

That also depends on your desired results and the product used. Typically, neuromodulators require a higher number of injection points than dermal fillers.
