Morpheus8 Pre/Post Treatment Guidelines
Pre-Treatment Preparations
Three Weeks Prior to Treatment
- Skin Fitzpatrick II-VI may require pre treatment with hydroquinone for 3 weeks, please discuss with your practitioner
One Week Prior to Treatment
- Stop use of NSAID medications, such as: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Naproxen due to their interference with normal blood clotting
- You may take Tylenol (Acetaminophen) as needed for pain, not to exceed 3000mg per day
- Discontinue use of self-tanner on treatment area
Three days Prior to Treatment
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning on area(s) being treated; use sunscreen SPF 30+ and reapply frequently when outdoors during daylight hours. Treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin
- Discontinue ‘active’ irritant topical agents, such as: Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, Hydroquinone, Retinoids (Vitamin A), and abrasive scrubs
Day of Treatment
- Please arrive for your treatment with clean skin.
- Do not apply any lotion, make-up, powders, oils, or other products to the treatment area(s); however, we can remove makeup in-office in the event that this is not possible.
What to Expect
- Skin may feel warm and tight after the treatment, similar to a moderate sunburn
- Most patients experience redness, swelling, and bruising for 3-5 days, however this can last up to a week or longer with a more aggressive treatment, we can prescribe low dose oral steroids for cases of excessive swelling
- Scabbing of needle entry points may form and will exfoliate away naturally within 1-2 weeks of the treatment for face/neck (2-3 weeks for body)
- Skin may crust and peel for 3-7 days (for face/neck) and 7-14+ days (for body) depending on the treatment’s settings
- Some patients may experience a ‘chicken skin’ appearance/texture for days to weeks post treatment due to swelling at needle entry points, this is normal and will subside with time
Morpheus8 Post Care Instructions
Immediately Following Treatment
- Before discharge a topical ointment will be applied, no bandages or wraps are necessary
- PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) OR Exosomes application should be left on the treated area for at least 6 hours post treatment
- Do NOT apply SPF or makeup
- Avoid wearing a used face mask
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat
Days 1-3 Post Treatment
- Daily regimen (implement 2-3x per day):
- Step 1: Gently cleanse skin with lukewarm water and mild cleanser, lightly pat dry (avoid scrubbing/trauma to skin)
- Step 2: Apply 1-2 pumps of ZO Growth Serum over treatment area(s)
(this lightweight gel calms/strengthens post procedure skin and supports collagen and elastin production to maximize results during the healing phase)
OR Apply aloe and moisturizer
- Step 3: (optional) Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor over treatment area(s)
(this occlusive emollient helps protect pinpoint entry wounds from infection during the healing phase)
Do NOT apply SPF or makeup and avoid wearing a mask, if possible, as this can increase risk of infection and post treatment breakouts*
*patients prone to energy/heat-related breakouts OR history of peri-oral treatment-induced herpes simplex outbreaks can opt to receive a post treatment prophylactic antibiotic/antiviral prescription
- Avoid use of steroid (Prednisone*), antihistamine (Benadryl), NSAID (Ibuprofen) medications as they may inhibit the necessary inflammation response post treatment, unless prescribed by your practitioner.
*our office can prescribe low dose oral steroids for patients that experience excessive swelling post procedure
- Do NOT apply any irritant skin care products with ‘active’ ingredients, such as: Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, Hydroquinone, Retinoids (Vitamin A), and abrasive scrubs
- Avoid sun exposure, excessive heat (hot showers, saunas, alcohol consumption, sweating), gyms, and swimming due to increased risk of both infection and adverse post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (skin darkening)
- Change pillowcase each evening before bed
Days 4-7 Post Treatment
- Patient may resume your normal skin care regimen recommended by your provider
- Makeup can be applied at this time as long as there are no residual area(s) of active wound healing
- Retinoids and Hydroquinone can be resumed at 4-7 days post treatment as long as skin is intact and pinpoint entry sites have healed
- Continue to avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat for at least 14 days for face, or 28 days for body (or longer if you have olive skin, dark skin or are prone to hyperpigmentation) post treatment and may need to start a regimen utilizing a 4% Hydroquinone for three weeks pre/post treatment to help suppress melanin production
