Your Path to a More Youthful, Beautiful Bustline
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure to help raise and reshape the breast into a more youthful position and contour. Dr. Brandon Richland strives to deliver the best breast lift Newport Beach has to offer. Additionally, with this procedure, you can address breast asymmetries, reduce large areolas, and raise low nipples.
The Natural Internal Bra™ technique, pioneered by Dr. Brandon Richland, gives you the benefits of the traditional internal bra technique without the risks and concerns of having mesh placed in your breasts. This safe technique uses your own body's natural tissue only to create support for your breast tissue and/or implant that will give you longer-lasting aesthetic results.
multiple treatment options
During your consultation, Dr. Richland will review multiple treatment options and discuss which may best suit you. Then, he will recommend a unique surgical plan based on your specific goals and breast anatomy. There are two main considerations when considering a breast lift. The first is if you would like a lift alone vs. a lift combined with an augmentation. The second is the type of incision.
You may be a good candidate for a lift alone if you only need to “tighten up” or reshape your breasts and have sufficient breast tissue and volume. If you are looking to not only reshape your breasts but also add volume, you may want to look into a mastopexy and augmentation type of surgery.
NEWPORT BEACH PLASTIC SURGERY
A periareolar lift has several variations, including a partial “crescent lift” and a full periareolar lift, also called a “circumareolar mastopexy” or “donut mastopexy”. Crescent Lift – The crescent lift is the most minimal lift and is used when there is minimal breast ptosis. It can be used to elevate or move the nipple a maximum of one to two centimeters. In this type of lift, a small crescent-shaped piece of skin is removed above the areola. The small scar is hidden between the upper pigmented areola and normal skin.
A circumareolar mastopexy, also called a “donut mastopexy”, is an extended version of the partial crescent lift. It can be used to elevate the nipple two to four centimeters. For this type of lift, skin is removed not only above but entirely around the areola, resulting in a scar that travels entirely around the areola. The scar again is hidden between the pigmented areola and normal skin. This type of circumareolar lift can also be used to reduce large areolas or correct areolar asymmetry. It can be common to get scar widening with this type of lift, so Dr. Richland uses a specialized type of suture and technique that helps to prevent this.
This is also referred to as a “lollipop” lift and works best for women who have moderate to severe breast ptosis or skin laxity. The circumareolar incision is combined with a vertical incision that travels from the areola straight down to the breast fold. This allows skin to be removed from the lower breast, therefore resulting in a much more powerful reshaping and recontouring procedure. Dr. Richland prefers this type of vertical/short scar mastopexy as it results in a shorter scar than the wise pattern lift below, and in most women results in a more aesthetic breast shape.
This lift is also referred to as an “anchor scar breast lift” or “inverted T mastopexy” and is reserved for women who have severe breast ptosis, or skin laxity. Since a significant amount of skin needs to be removed, the scar is longer and additional travels horizontally along the breast fold. One downside to this lift, in addition to the longer scar, is that in some women, the breasts can appear “boxy” or “wide” after this type of lift.
This refers to the lifting effect that can be achieved with a dual-plane augmentation. A breast augmentation can help restore youthful volume to the upper part of the breast and increase “cleavage”. When the implant is placed in a dual plane fashion, a modest lifting effect can be achieved of the surrounding breast tissue, nipple, and areola. This technique is best for patients with mild ptosis or breast laxity who are looking to increase breast volume and avoid the scars of a traditional breast lift. While no surgical procedure is truly scarless, the only incision required for this technique is a small three-centimeter incision for the implant, and therefore the traditional breast lift incisions can be avoided.
This is a great option for patients who have had a previous breast augmentation and have mild to moderate breast laxity. With this technique, your internal breast capsule is tightened from the inside, thus elevating the implant and surrounding breast tissue. Again, while no surgical procedure is truly scarless, your previous breast augmentation incision can be used; therefore, the traditional breast lift incisions can be avoided.

BREAST LIFT AT A GLANCE
Immediately after surgery, our Newport Beach breast lift patients will be placed in a soft post-surgical bra which will be worn for comfort for several weeks. It is normal for your breasts to feel sore and tight for the first several days. In most cases, you will be able to return to work and normal activity, except for strenuous physical activity or vigorous exercise, within three to seven days postoperatively.

A breast augmentation will increase the volume or size of your breasts, while a breast lift is used to raise and reshape the breast into a more youthful position and contour. Some women may wish to have both done at the same time.
Generally, a breast lift will not significantly change the size of your breasts but will change the shape, position, and contour. If you wish to increase the size of your breasts, you may be interested in a breast augmentation or combined mastopexy augmentation. If you wish to decrease the size of your breasts, you may want to think about a breast reduction.
While no surgical procedure is truly scarless, the only incision required for this technique is a small incision just larger than one-inch for the implant.
It is common to experience a short-term decrease in sensation that usually subsides over the next few months. Usually, these changes are temporary, but in some rare cases, they can be permanent.
For some of our Newport Beach breast lift patients, results last for years or decades, while others may require minor revisions after several years. Your body will continue to age naturally over time, and long-lasting results depend on many factors, including age, genetics, skin quality, health, and the type of surgical technique used. Dr. Richland utilizes a specialized internal lifting suture technique to help hold the breast shape and position over time.
